Currently, the greenhouse effects have been publicized widely in the media. Carbondioxide (CO2) is a major greenhouse gas (GHG) that causes the climate change. In Thailand, main sources of CO2 emission are in the energy sector (62%), land use and land-use change and forestry (30%), and industrial sector (8%). For the time being, Thailand and other developing countries do not have any legal commitments under the Kyoto Protocol to reduce GHG emissions. However, it is very likely that industrialized countries will come and cooperate with Thai counterparts through the Clean Development Mechanism of the same protocol in carrying out the GHG emission reduction projects in Thailand. In doing so, they hope to get in return the carbon credit to fulfill their legal commitments to reduce GHG emissions by 5.2% from their 1990 emissions level. The carbon credit received from any CDM project is so-called 'Certified Emissions Reduction', whereas 1 CER is equal to 1 ton of CO2 equivalent reduced.
